Beyond reasonable doubt, guilty of treason!

Besides the folks at Aiga, Meles himself has proven to all Ethiopians including to the folks at Bani Website (Opps, Hmbashaa) that he is beyond any reasonable doubt an Eritrean agent. I mean what Meles did this week is not only embarrassing, sad, and etc, it is treason at its worst form. This guy has given Eritrea all it demanded in return for pride on “his Eritreaness” as one fellow put it. Anyone who thinks Meles is playing smart diplomatic game is not only a fool, but an Eritrean agent him or herself. Now it has become so obvious even Eritreans themselves are admitting that they are proud to have a patriot Eritrean, Meles, to serve Eritrean interest in a sophisticated way that is inconceivable.

When I evaluate PM Meles bold and strategic decisions and savvy leadership, it reminded me a visionary and bold Canadian PM Pearson in 1950s and 60s. At that time the English Candians' affection with the Great Bretain was very high. When the PM Pearson proposed to the House of Commons to change the Canadian Flag by another one which can reflect the diversity and integrity of Canada, many English Canadian opposed so bitterly. However, he persisted and a new national Flag was introduced. Again the PM took many other radical measures. They were unpopular at that time. But they helped the country to achieve its present status. Now after 40 years, he has been selected by the people of Canada to be one of the 10 greatest Canadians.

Ethiopia is realy lucky to have such a leader with full of wisdom, realism and prudence. I am sure, many future generation Ethiopians will benefit from his extraordinary work at this time. What he is doing with his colleagues now will undoubtedly have a long implication for the country. Indeed, lucky country to have so smart figure like Meles as its head.

Well, what I can advice for those simply throwing words emotionally is the following:

If you want to see sustainable development of your country, support him and his leadership. Please we should not mix our individual misfortune or fortune with the vital and ground breaking national development agendas. We are now in the 21st centurey. Our world is becomeing terribly smaller and smaller. Old ideas don't work. In fact, they are counter productive. Their negative impact can affect us indivudually and collectively.

If Ethiopia and Eritrea live in peace, their endouments will be enough for the Ethipiopian and Eritrean people. After all they are brotherly people. Yes whether we like it or not they are. We need to come back to our sense and stop looking through a small hole. Feudalistic mentality doesn't help at this Internet time. You can see how the Europeans are unting, how diverse populations are living in harmony in many countries. We must develop a culture of tolerance and brothership. That is a strong signal of sivility and establishment of strong and dynamic society. Let us nurture it and direct our efforts and energy towards building peace, development and solidarity. This is the right direction. Otherwise, we cannot pull ourselves out of the quagmire of poverty, backwardness. We have to remember that what we do today will determine the destiy of our childeren as the next generation. If we continue like this, our regret will be terrible in the near future unless we say the greedy words " if I die let the grass should not grow". It is a true measurement for us to what extent we love our country. Other wise we are insulting our farsightedness.

Let us widen our horizon and be realistic. Learning is a continuous process.

Cheers

Press Release
Peace cannot be imposed through treason: Solidarity
Tigrian Solidarity
December 3, 2004

Meles Zenawi's most current, newly configured "five-point initiative" concerning the border decision does not surprise Solidarity. Since its inception, Solidarity has taken unequivocal position that Meles is an Eritrean agent with a clear agenda. We knew well all the way that Meles would not rest until he fulfils his life dream of carrying out Shaebia's age-old blue print to the full. And that is, divide and weaken Ethiopia to the extent that it cannot not stand on its feet to challenge Shaebia's ill-gained control of Ethiopia's Red Sea cost or challenge Shaebia's insatiable appetite for agricultural land and "gold digging" inside Ethiopia.

For almost two decades, Meles and his few Eritreanized cronies such as Sebhat Nega have waged a systematic war to do away with Ethiopian nationalism, especially in the northern region of the country, where they have gained compulsive control over the population through intimidation, blackmail, imprisonment and elimination. After assuming power sitting at the Menelik Palace in Addis Ababa, Meles has used his newly assembled pawns like Bereket Simon and Addisu Legese of ANDM to weaken and destroy Ethiopian nationalism throughout the land. In 2002, he had assumed that it was safe enough for him to hand over parts of Ethiopia to his "beloved" Eritrea. The uproar from Ethiopians from within and all over the world made him retreat, definitely taking his time until the nationwide "emotion" tapered off and Ethiopians moved on with their daily routine. Now, after two years of testing and fastening his power lines, he believes he can carry out his heinous crime with impunity.

Mind you Meles is rushing not only to hand over Ethiopian territories in the northern border of the country to Eritrea, but also is dying to hurriedly close the chapter on the Red Sea issue once and for all so that the Ethiopian people would not reclaim the Afar territory including Asseb, once Meles is replaced by a nationalist government who can effectively enforce justice as it stands on the ground. But, whatever Meles has achieved so far and what he is striving to achieve for the benefit of Eritrea at the expense of Ethiopia, is nothing but an unparalleled act of treason, which should not prevail to have any legal bearing. The Ethiopian people never had a chance to voice their say over this most important issue for their country's national security and territorial integrity. One thing is true - Ethiopians have shown unanimous and vehement opposition to this historic sabotage planned to destroy their country. It is inconceivable that Meles' force, deceit and treasonous act would prevent Ethiopians from claiming and gaining back (by all means) what ever is taken away from them - be it the border territories or the red sea littoral. It should be understood by all concerned that Meles Zenawi is planting more seeds of animosity and is heavily engaged in the preparation of the ingredients for an even greater disaster between the peoples of Ethiopia and its former northern province - Eritrea.

Fellow Ethiopians, Meles is a vicious predator who knows when to strike and when to retreat. He, if allowed, will never stop short of Ethiopia's destruction. He has established a border commission with the Sudan and who knows which area of Ethiopia will be for grabs. One thing is clear; we never doubted that Meles once again was going to strike. The question was, when?

Prior to the 1998 Eritrean invasion, Meles gave a Blanc cheque to the Eritrean regime to siphon off Ethiopia's' wealth, plunder and sale our cash crops and export commodities in the world market. At the Port of Asseb, The Eritrean regime was conducting an open robbery against Ethiopian import /export goods. Eritrean Customs officers were dismantling Ethiopian vehicles and they were selling them in Asmara as spare parts. Loading and unloading working hours were deliberately shortened to charge high storage fees and port Services. In fact the Eritrean regime refused to install modern crane bought by the Ethiopian government to expedite goods delivery services.

At that time the Eritrean economy was growing at the rate of seven percent annually. Eritrea even refused to accept any form of foreign Assistance including grant.

Today the Eritrean Economy is in shambles. Two- third of Eritrea's population is living on handout. The price of Taf/Teif, the staple crop in Ethiopia and Eritrea, costs about five hundred Nacfa per quintal in Eritrea. Therefore, Meles' "New Initiative" is not simply mere coincidence on the HOME front, but an integral part of his long-term strategy of destabilizing Ethiopia, to benefit Eritrea. Today there is no single month passing without ethnic violence in the country. In many parts of the country, Ethnic groups are fighting over border, water and grazing land. In the last three months, the government of Meles Zenawi has set up a "Hague style boundary Commission" to settle internal border conflicts.

For hundreds of years Muslims and Christians have been living in harmony. For all practical reasons Ethiopia had been an oasis of religious tolerance. Now Meles is introducing foreign religious elements to spread messages of hate to ferment Ethiopian instability. This of course goes in line with Meles' long term anti -Ethiopian strategy. Despite the official and public rhetoric to eliminate poverty, Meles' government has been heavily taxing destitute Ethiopian farmers and confiscating their assets for lack of payment of fertilizer credits. His government is the sole landlord of the country, and uses the land holding system in place to blackmail Ethiopian farmers to extract votes on national elections. Many development experts and international organizations as well as western governments have attested to the fact that this system is exacerbating the food shortage of the country by killing the farmer's incentive and interest in the land he/she works on. This is by any measure a tiny portion of Meles Zenawi's current satanic activity.

In short Meles is a traitor, tyrant and foreign agent. Based on past and present activities of Meles Zeinawi, Solidarity:

  • Strongly believes that Meles Zeinawi is the single biggest threat for the survival of Ethiopia;
  • Condemns unequivocally the so-called new initiative.
  • Reaffirms our standing position that Meless Zeinawi is an Eritrean agent and needs to be removed from power;
  • Calls upon the Ethiopian defense forces not to collaborate with the enemy and betray their motherland.
  • Calls upon the People of Tigrai to prepare to fight, like always, against anybody who comes to their land to post a border pillar
  • Congratulates the members of the Ethiopian parliament who opposed Meles Zenawi's policy of betrayal. Their names will be in the book of Ethiopia's heroes.
Long Live Our Motherland, Ethiopia

Don't get loss, or never try to change the nick name.

Dear Melake:

The core matter is not whether I am Wedi Halima or Wedi Abeba. I just said what I feel. Every one has the right to say what he or she believes. One thing I would like to bring to your attention is: my concern for the Ethiopian and Eritrean people. I believe from the bottom of your heart that you don't like the sufferring of the people.

I am sure, this problem will not stay forever. It will be histroy and we will remember it with a shame and bitterness. If we fail to do our homework or imped those who are trying. We will say why people killed each other for problems which can be fully solved peacefully. I expect you to agree with me that war doesn't bring a solution, never in history.

Different countries have comfortably solved their bitter problems or disagreements peacefully but not with bullets. I can give you many examples. Now please imagine a war between Eritrea and Ethiopia; a war between peoples with the same heritage, what a shame. More shame is for those who are deliberately adding gas to the fire just for their greedy personal interests. Oh! hostilities among people which have many, many attributes in common. We should really come to our sense.

It is really difficult for me to accept and telorate this. The Germans have tested the hideous legacy of war and distruction. And they always say "Alle sind teuer aber Frieden ist am Teursten" (Transilation: All are expensive but Peace is the most expensive"). They are right. Isn't it enough for the Ethiopian and Eritrean people. Why these people are deprived of peace and development while others are enjoying the wealth and happiness of our planet. No, No and No we shouldn't accept this. In fact, we have to re-engineer ourselves.

Yes, I and you are confortably living in diaspora, but, for sure,  we don't want to see the suffering of our innocent brothers and sisters. Our ancesstors did not teach us this. They taught us telorance, solving problems with negotiation and rich culture shrouded with brotherhood and socially inistigated safety net. Let us not mix this with the greed. Otherwise It will not take us any where. In fact, we will loose pride and respect in the world community.

Melake: I respect your personal opinion and stand, but it is also a moral obligation for me at least to say something about the seemingly wrong attitude you have at this moment. Of course this is from my point of view. Don't worry, with peace and brothership, the potential endowments are enough for us. Please remember, Ethiopian and Eritrean people are hardworking and meticulous, but opportunity should be given to them. Otherwise histroy is documenting at least in our hearts. Please remember that it is the summation of individual efforts which brings development.

Melake, suffering is not good for anybody let alone to our sisters and brothers. The magic is in hour hands and we can shorten that.

I wish you all the best

With full respects and greetings

Yohannes
