Fiction/Novel books written in Tigrigna

Back from early fifties up to date there are so many books written in Tigrinya  by some Eritrean intellectuals. To mention some, Tri-Ebdi and Weteto Endaboy Andu by Berhe Araya in early 70’s , Gratey Meskrley., Hade Eritrawi ,  Wey Ane Dekey by Abeba Tesfaghiorgis  and so many other and not to mention that highly valuable book such as Masakuti May Mine by Adonai and Wedi Hadera and Aynfelale  by Alemsghed tesfay in the year of 1999-2001. My question is however, is there any book written by the people from tigray? Pleas tell me if there are some. I am just curios and want to read

Dani, I wish you all the best but

The point is people from Tigray, in general, do not know how to write in Tigrinya. I am not being funny here, even writing a letter to a friend is done in Amharic! I bet whatever scriptures you can get in Tigrinya will have some political connotation. You know those kind of political pamphlets written by cadres of the Woyane, like "SHAEWIYA SELA'E HIZBI TIGARAY IYU", "NI-QILISH TELAL"...

But, you will get books writtne by Tigrayans that would read like:

YIH MEKELE NEW (by Mesfin Sium), YE-WOYANE TIGL (by Arkebe Enquai), NAPOLEAON ETHIOPIAWI NEW (by Meles Zenawi), ALEM BEQAN (by Siye Abraha), FENJI-REGATCH (by Gen Tsadikan), AMEST YE-SELAM MENGEDOCH (Bereket Simon), NIGEST SABA (Atakilti)

Dani if you are enquiring genuinely that is alright I will give you some lists.

1)Atakilti Hagos: He is from Axume by birth, was educated in Adua, he is a high scool graduate. A long time fighter who currently works in  the Relief Society of Tigry in Mekell as PR ( Public relation officer). He is a chain smoker and a vast reader as well as a good writer. His Tigrigna is complex I mean it is original you know there is a saying which goes Tigrigha "abay tewelida ab axum abay batsiha ab Adua". Which means Tigrigha was born in Axum but grew up in Adua. So this man was born in the birth place of Tigrigha and grew-up in Adua where Tigrigna was said to be grown to its fullest form. This man authored three books.

1)" Remets (1986)"

2) "Nesegum ab lima'at may be between (1988-89)"

3) "Mot ab li eli mekabier & dageme lidet may be b/n (1991-1992"

II) Ezana Z Axum : I don't know the man in person and the name is his nick name. He works in TPLF Radio Broadcast in Mekelle. He authored two books. They say he is from Axum too.

1) "My-liham (1985)"

2) "Hinkihinkility"

III) Abadi Hagos: A teacher by profession and a graduate in Chemistry authored one book.

1) "Mahazay".

IV) Tewelde Ewer: He was said to be the brain of TPLF. Some say he was the architect of todays Ethiopian politics. However now he is ousted from his position by PM Meles. He authored the following book.

1) "Kalisi hizibi Ethiopia kaby naby"

V) The PM himself has authored two books

1) "Kalisi hizibi Eritrea kaby naby"

2) ............... I couldn't remember the name but it was being broadcast in the TPLF Radio from Mekel for long time.

Generally in Tigray, Tigrigna is in its climax since the fall of Derg. In 1984 I went to Mekell as a professional to work in a certain organization .I had problems to understand the locals. I remember  one day my store keeper said "Ezen dabo ezi sernay belien wedieno" She want to say the birds (dove) had finished the wheat( cereal). But I coudn't understand her. She said dabo to mean rigebit.

Now people from Adua and Mekelle more or less speak the same words. I mean they are centralizing the language I shoud say Aduazation. You can't apply in any language what so ever other than Tigrigna be it in court or in office. People here are saying Tigreans don't speak  Tigrign. I don't know about the onse in here for I have been here for only 10 months. But in Tigray every thing is in Tigrigna, if you speak in Amharic they call you "yewetader lije". Only the so called "Ameches" who come frome different parts of central Ethiopia speake Amharic.

So Dani if you think Tigrigna is growing in Asmara than in Tigray you are gravely wrong. You know 13 years a go we had many factories in Asmara and there was none in Tigray. Today there is at least one factory in each Aweraja of Tigray but our old Italian made factories are totally depreciated and are with no man power. 13 years a go we had one university today we have the same one with out student and proper facility. In Tigray there was no even TTI (Teachers Training Institution) today they have 6 universities in Mekelle only 4 : ( Business & Economics in Adi Haki Built with modern facilities, Mekell Uni in Quiha, Nursing College and MIT), one in Temben, one in Shire. They are also planning to have one in Adua. So what I am saying is don't judge Tigray and Tigreans based on previous data. Things are changing in Tigray very fast. Day in day out you see new development. The same applies with the language and the books. Todays Tigray is more advanced than our Eritrea. We are losing what we have achieved before, while they are acquiring what they did have. Mr Dani stop staring at some once business and let's mind ours.

Respect them so that they can respect us. Struggle for peace, friendship and love than belittling and sarcastically playing around them. I left Mekell during the last invasion in 2000, so you have no more accurate witness than I. These are the reality in the grass root and it is up to you to accept or other wise. While they are marching three steps forward we are marching two back ward.
