Like it or not Meles' latest move is very clever indeed. The heat is now on the desperate tyrannat and it will be interesting to see which way he decides to go. The initial statement given by his Information minister is just a ploy deisgned to taste the water. Meles slowly but suerly placed the dictator in a corner from which is going to come out the loser. 

If the dictator refuses the current peace initiative, the on going international pressure exerted on Ethiopia will cease pronto. The evidence for this is that almost all of the internationl community have have endorsed Ethiopia's latest peace proposal. Therefore, if our man in Asmara goes around the world pleading for sanctions aganist Ethiopia, he  will not succeed.

If the tyrrant accepts the initiative then, he will have no choice but to discuss all outstanding issues including Assab. Furthermore, he will have to sit down with the Eritrean opposition  parties and negotiate the introduction of democracy in Eritrea. If these materialise and it will, we have to thank the Prime Minister of Ethiopia.

Our man in Asmara will not opt for war, and the reason for this is that, if he does he knows it will be the end of him.
